This year, the much-anticipated Peak Bloom of the High Park Cherry Blossoms in Toronto occurred during the final week of April and our students took the opportunity to visit this spectacular showcase of nature at its finest despite the lower-than-seasonal temperatures.
On Monday, April 22, the entire student body and staff team gathered at the shores of Colonel Samuel Smith Park to collect garbage in an effort to contribute to keeping our shoreline and park free of garbage.

This year for Black History Month, our Middle School Students at the Lake Shore Campus engaged in an exploration of black music, cultures, traditions, arts, etc. Each student then selected a black artist to learn more about and then designed and painted an artwork that paid homage to the artist they chose.
Oak Learners Middle School students had the opportunity to visit the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Center at Humber college to learn about the contributions of Black Canadians as well as the story of Grace, a former resident of the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. These opportunities help our students understand history through unique stories and experiences that cannot be found in a textbook.
On February 21, 2024, the entire student body of Oak Learners shared a visit to the Ontario Science Center. Students from Kindergarten through Grade Eight were accompanied by teachers and several parent volunteers while they explored and experienced science in a whole new way!
Oak Learners was proud to present our Holiday Concert for the 2023 Season! Our students from all grade levels performed, and the concert also featured solo performances from students who participate in Private Music Lessons at Oak Learners.
On December 19, 2023, our Middle School students from the Oak Learners Lake Shore Campus visited the Art Gallery of Ontario. They spent the day exploring the galleries, in particular the extraordinary works of Keith Haring.
Our day school students enjoy exploring different traditions around the world. This year we learned about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.
The Mimico Village BIA and Oak Learners commissioned an innovative and inspirational mural for the community in September 2023. The mural was unveiled in a community event on October 28, 2023 and brought to life with an interactive video projection.
For the month of September, our Middle School class at the Oak Learners Lake Shore Campus has been engaged in an inquiry-based learning project to choose a class pet. The students have learned about the importance of responsible animal caretaking while also investigating the pros and cons of having a class pet.
Together with Oak Learners, the Mimico Village BIA has undertaken the commission of an innovative and inspirational for the community.

On a beautiful spring afternoon in mid-May, we noticed that our local park was blanketing in gorgeous yellow dandelions. The fields of green and yellow seemed to stretch forever, providing us an opportunity to reflect on the absolute beauty of the natural world around us.
At its core, inclusivity means recognizing and valuing the diversity of our students and ensuring that each and every one of them feels welcome, supported, and included in our learning community. This includes students of all races, ethnicities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, and abilities.
Students in our class each chose one spirit animal or First Nations image to paint. Following a “paint by colour” template, the children painted with traditional native American colours (black, red and blue) to form an image.
The weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining brighter and it helps us all feel a little bit better each day. It’s the perfect time to get outside and take a walk!
