Success of Summer Camp Programs with Oak Learners in 2021

With 2021 Summer Camps fully booked and even a waitlist being created, you could say this year was a great achievement and success for all staff and members at Oak Learners. Parents and children were excited to return back to yearly Summer Camp and connecting again with their fellow peers and camp counsellors.

COVID-19 heavily impacted the lives of many children in school as it was a tough time to connect with friends and family. Bringing camps back into the summers of youths shined a light on everyone and made life feel a little bit more normal.

Summer Camp with kids Oak Learners 2021

As there are two different camps, kids had different options to choose from:

Eco Adventures Camp involves outdoor activities that are led by experienced outdoor educators. Some of these activities include exploring the local beauty our community has to offer such as trips to Humber River, Mimico Creek Trail, Humber Bay Shores, and Mimico Waterfront. Don’t forget about daily activities such as mindfulness exercises, bug and wildlife exploring, hiking, and outdoor survival skills. Not only that, but each week includes one or two visits to a local splash pad or wading pools (aka “Water Days”).

Arts & Adventures Camp involves mindfulness activities, outdoor adventure trips to local parks or nature trails with time to work on STEAM (Science – Technology – Engineering – Arts – Math) activities throughout the day. Moreover, weekly excursions to planned local destinations foster experiential learning and increase the understanding of the elements that have been learned throughout each week. On top of that, weekly local splash pad or wading pool visits (aka “Water Days”).

Both camps include weekly visits to a local splash pad or wading pools (aka “Water Days”) and to end each day, campers participate in a daily reflection about their memories on the day. They learn to share successes, set new goals when reflecting on challenges, and being a part of mindfulness exercises.

We can’t wait to see the turnout for 2022 Summer Camps! You can expect to get updates regarding the camps near December time at www.oaklearners.ca/summer. We hope to see everyone next year and expect to increase capacity to accommodate any newcomers to Oak Learners!
