Supporting the Trans Canada Trail Care Day 2024

by | Jun 3, 2024 | Announcements., Events, Outdoor Education, School Life

On Saturday, June 1, Oak Learners joined the Trans Canada Trail Team and the Waterfront Trail team for Trail Care Day 2024! Oak Learners was excited to provide activities for families, including a self-guided scavenger hunt on the Trail. Those who completed the scavenger hunt were treated to a free snack from Birds & Beans Café and a Great Lakes Waterfront Trail patch!

It takes a nation to care for the world’s longest trail network! And on June 1, we celebrated the thousands of volunteers across Canada who do exactly that. Trail Care Day is a multi-location event happening in communities across Canada to get the Trail ready for spring and summer. Each event showcases a unique section of the Trans Canada Trail and calls on volunteers in the community to roll up their sleeves for whatever trail care activity is needed most locally — from debris removal and brush clean-up to accessibility improvements or art installations.

This year, we were also proud to boast the support of representatives from all three levels of Government in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, including MP James Maloney, MPP Christine Hogarth, and Deputy Mayor Amber Morely.

Two students from Oak Learners have their artwork featured at this year’s Tis the Season Art Show at the Assembly Hall at Humber College. Featuring art created by students from local schools, the works in this exhibition speaks to the seasonal changes from autumn to winter, like snowfalls and long periods of darkness, and the cultural traditions they help shape. The exhibition is open from November 19 to December 18, 2024.
