Part 1:
Gondola system (Inspired by Science Projects for Kids)
Science Projects for Kids created an idea that you can make a gondola operation system that you can pass messages from one person to another!
What you need:
- 2 Ziploc sandwich bags
- 2 chairs
- Yarn
- Scissors
- 4 Clothespins, clips or paper clips
- Paper
- Pencils
Step 1: Gather your materials!
Step 2: Place two chairs back to back about three feet apart to set up your gondola system!
Step 3: Cut a piece of yarn that is long enough to loop around the two chairs. Tie the ends of the yarn together and make sure that it is tight! (If the yarn sags pull the chairs away from each other until the yarn is tight.)
Step 4: Use two clothespins to attach the top of one ziplock bag to one string, and another to the other string.
Part 2: Secret message game prep
Step 1: Have each player cut 10 pieces of paper for themselves, large enough to write a small message!
Step 2: Now, have each player position themselves on either chair.
Step 3: Practice moving the ziploc bags from one chair to the other by each pulling on the string that they will be receiving their partners message from.
Step 4: Once you have gotten your partner’s bag, unpin the ziploc bag, and attach the bag onto the other string.
Part 3: Secret Game!
Step 1: Think of a message that you want to send to your friend and draw images in a line instead of words!
Ex. Perhaps you want to say: “The sun is setting and I am happy!”
You could then draw:
Step 2: Once you are done drawing your image, put your paper in the bag, clip it to the string and pull the other string to get your partner’s bag!
Step 3: Unhook your partner’s bag, guess what your partner’s message is, write it down, place it in the bag and send it off again!
Step 4: Read out loud what your partner guessed and share what your original message was!
You will laugh at what the possible guesses will be!
Step 5: Get ready for another round!
Be creative and have fun!
*This game can be adapted! You can draw a picture and have your partner guess what it is!*
