Oak Learners has teamed up with Seneca College and various other colleges to gather talented students across Canada to work inside the school. We interviewed one intern student from Seneca College that joined the Oak Learners team, Maria, to speak more on what they have learned whilst working with Oak Learners, how their experience went, how Seneca College saw the experience, and what takeaways they have from the internship with Oak Learners.
Why did you choose Oak Learners as your internship with Seneca College?
Maria’s Answer (Seneca Intern): “I knew I could learn so much in many different aspects and how supportive and kind I knew ALL the staff already are.”
How did your Oak Learners placement enrich your learning?
Maria’s Answer (Seneca Intern): “I learned how to utilize different management behaviour strategies and be more confident/assertive.”
What brought you happiness when working with Oak Learners?
Maria’s Answer (Seneca Intern): “Seeing the children smile and grow but also when they come to me for comfort or simply to play! It shows how much they trust or are comfortable around me which is nice. Also how inclusive the staff are. They greet you whenever they see you and take the time to ask you how you are.”
What did you think of the co-worker environment?
Maria’s Answer (Seneca Intern): “AMAZING. The amount of feedback and support you can get by the other teachers is great. They go beyond to help you the best they can with whatever they know. There’s no judgment and you can feel that. It’s an environment where you are okay sharing your thoughts.”
How Will The Oak Learners Internship Benefit Your Career?
Maria’s Answer (Seneca Intern): “As a professional, this internship allowed me to be more aware of myself, my actions and how I approach things. As someone who will continue to work with children, these strategies are fundamental and will continue to be used.”
