raised salt painting

Art is a very important part of learning and creative expression. This raised salt painting activity is a great DIY activity to try at home!

Materials needed:

  • Card stock
  • Wet glue (Elmers is a good option)
  • Table salt
  • Water colours
  • Paint brushes

Steps:

  1. Squeeze your glue design on your card stock.
  2. Sprinkle your design with salt until the glue is thoroughly covered.
  3. Dip your paintbrush into your liquid watercolour paint and gently touch the salt covered glue lines.
  4. Watch the paint “magically” travel in both directions!
  5. Let dry thoroughly! (Note: This may take a few days)

At Oak Learners Before and After School Enrichment Program we explore a range of activities. I absolutely love doing art with the kids! I get to teach them about new materials, how to use art materials properly to keep them working well for longer, and information about the projects and topics we are working on. I love the exploration, creativity, and learning opportunities that art provides.
