During this time of year it can be hard to get your children back in school mode. Having study tips on hand for back to school time can be greatly beneficial getting your kids back in the homework groove. Here are 4 of the best study tips to start the school year off.

Study tips for notebook writin

1. Getting in the Habit of Effective Note Taking

Taking notes sounds like a daunting and unfun task for most children. Incentivising children to take notes can be a huge step to make the task look more fun. This could mean getting them to use colourful sticky notes, getting them a pen with their favourite superhero on it, and more.  Studies have shown that writing notes out by hand have a greater retention rate rather than taking no notes at all. Teaching active listening and reading skills like highlighting important points can also help with retention.

2. Study Buddy/Parent Help

Having someone by your side when doing your homework can help motivate the child to get work done. This could mean having a study buddy over to finish the homework, with the incentive to play after. This could also be a parent sitting down with the child to guide them through any troubles they may have, and put them on the right path.

3. Avoid Leaving Things Till Last Minute

Doing homework or projects in advance can reduce the stress levels of not only the children, but the parents themselves. Having a schedule to do the homework much before it is actually due can get the children in a good habit to finish things early and schedule their work. This can also be done with studying before tests, or big upcoming dates.

4. Have a Quiet Study Space

Having a clean, quiet study space can reduce distractions your child may be having. This means having all devices off the table, the TV off, and focusing on the work at hand. Giving them breaks in between is a good idea, especially as a reward of focusing on work for a slotted amount of time.
