Our day school students enjoy exploring different traditions around the world. This year we learned about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights which “symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance“.

Learning About Culture Through Food

Our Lake Shore campus students had the privilege and joy of visiting Bombay on the Lake. There they learned about Diwali and how to make some popular dishes.

Celebration Through Dance

One of our teachers taught the students how to dance in celebration of Diwali and we learned through activities and books about the festival. Our students even had the opportunity to watch a Diwali celebratory dance at Sherway Gardens.

Two students from Oak Learners have their artwork featured at this year’s Tis the Season Art Show at the Assembly Hall at Humber College. Featuring art created by students from local schools, the works in this exhibition speaks to the seasonal changes from autumn to winter, like snowfalls and long periods of darkness, and the cultural traditions they help shape. The exhibition is open from November 19 to December 18, 2024.
