Oak Learners incorporates their philosophy of teaching in a way that is suitable for each individual child! Children at Oak Learners are provided with learning experiences integrating the 3Rs that allow them to achieve great success rather than learning challenges that they are unable to accomplish due to it being too difficult or they are not ready to learn that material yet. Meaningful learning opportunities within projects take place and incorporate several dimensions in relation to the topics that are being learned.

Oak Learners implement the science curriculum in a way that allows children to have fun while also keeping it engaging for all! During times of learning, there are many opportunities to participate in hands-on learning which is a great way for children to be able to visually see what is being taught as this can be a beneficial way of learning for most. Parents have observed patience and motivating within the staff at Oak Learners as they provide children with the foundation, they need to learn while finding a method that works best for them. Children are given a lot of outdoor time throughout each day which has been noticed to be very beneficial for the children’s learning!

Also, to enhance learning, yoga is very much implemented to help keep children calm and relaxed throughout the day! A parent from Oak Learners had mentioned that โ€œThe reason we value the school is that it is not a โ€œboxโ€, and they donโ€™t try to fit our son into a box-teaching is organic but not in an ungrounded, impractical wayโ€.

“all students can learn and succeed, but not on the same day in the same way”

Melissa Shoesmith

Hello, my name is Melissa Shoesmith and I am currently in my fifth semester at Seneca College in the Bachelors of Child Development program. I am completing my field placement here at Oak Learners. Working with children is the most rewarding job in the world in my opinion. I love having the opportunity to watch children learn and grow. I always want to make a positive impact on a child's life!
