Personalized Music Lessons at Oak Learners

Oak Learners is dedicated to inspiring minds through Arts Education and our Love of Music! We offer a supportive learning atmosphere, working with your child’s unique learning style to inspire their strengths and interests.

Private music lessons are available to learners of all ages from young to old in a variety of disciplines, including Piano, Guitar, Voice, Ukulele, Drums, Percussion and Composition. Students are placed with a teacher who is a professional in their field and who loves inspiring a love of music in their students. Our music lessons are unique and blend music theory with music that children will love to practice.

How it Works

1) Let us know you’re ready to Start now! Once we receive your Inquiry Form, we can work with you to design a personalized music program for your child(ren).

2) You will receive a reply to your Inquiry Form with a link to complete a “Student Intake Questionnaire”. This will help us understand more about your goals so we can assign the best Music Teacher to work with them.

3) Our Music Director will connect with you within 24-48 hours after receiving your Intake Form to determine the optimal schedule for your lessons and to schedule a Meet & Greet with your new Music Teacher, at mutually convenient times.

4) Before beginning music lessons, please purchase credits towards your lessons. Credits can be purchased in bulk and refilled at any time to continue sessions.

NOTE: Music lessons are available at both campus locations in South Etobicoke: 394 Royal York Rd and 3003B Lake Shore Blvd W and are scheduled in the same time-slot each week. Communication books are used to maintain tracking of lesson content and communication between parents and teachers. Parents are encouraged to arrive 5 minutes early either at the start or end of a lesson to communicate directly with a teacher or alternatively communicate via email.

Music Specialties

Music programs at Oak Learners are suitable for students ages 4 through Adult. We recommend that younger students (Ages 4-6) participate in a “Music Experience” program for their first term of lessons so that we can better understand their skill level and they can learn more about the different instruments and general music theory. Students Ages 6-16 are encouraged to specialize in 1 instrument, although our Music Teachers are all multi-instrumental and will enjoy helping students of all ages explore various musical interests.

Musical Specialties include:

Piano, Guitar, Ukulele, Vocal, Drums, Percussion, Composition, Musical Theatre, Early Years Music Experience

Scheduling

Private Music Lessons are booked in 30-min sessions, at a mutually convenient time that recurs on a weekly basis at the same day/time each week. A small buffer of time is set aside at the start and end of each session so that parents can check in and check out with the tutor. If you ever feel that you need or want more time to review your child’s progress with the tutor, please feel welcome to schedule this through our office so we can build it into the timetable.

Consistency is important! As educators and parents, we know that children do best with predictable timetables and positive relationships with their teachers. Therefore, committing to a full term, or a full school year of tutoring allows more time to strengthen the student-teacher relationship and to build on the progress of each term. A longer commitment also helps with teacher-retention rates and this means that we can also commit to maintaining your child’s regular session timing each week.

Music sessions are available Monday through Thursday, 3:00pm-8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am-1:00pm.

Outdoor Learning: Sound Walk Adventures!

Outdoor Learning: Sound Walk Adventures!

Summer is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the sunny weather while we can! Children are constantly learning and there are many outdoor activities that allow them to have fun while engaging with the world around them. Although kids are naturally curious and can direct their own learning by exploring the outdoors and asking questions, there are many activities that family members can introduce and facilitate to encourage students to think outside the box. One way to do this is with a sound walk!

Anxiety levels are up and test scores are down. Ontario students are experiencing record levels of stress, anxiety and suicidal rates are higher than ever before, but students are still under daily pressure to perform to meet provincial standards.
