Musical Theatre Week at Summer Camp 2023

Wow…what a fun & smooth first week of camp for 2023! For that, we have our fabulous campers & staff to thank

Rain or (lots of) Sunshine, we were out exploring, splashing, playing and enjoying the weather with our wonderful counsellors Emma, Gaby, Ryan & Kristina at the Royal York Campus.

Our campus was visited this week by our resident percussionist, Mr. Adam! All campers had a chance to play the drums, and he worked with us on rhythm & team work! We did a lot of clapping, stomping and shaking!

We also enjoyed working with our boomwhackers and learning about different pitches and how we can combine them to make a scale!

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” – Plato

Our theme of the week at Royal York was “Musical Theatre”. Our specialized camp group learned music, we worked on annunciation, character development and singing! Musicals we learned music from about this week were: “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, “HONK! The Musical”, “The Lion King”, “Peter Pan” & “CATS!” We learned lots of fun warm ups with Miss Natalie so our voices can stay healthy and strong!

This week, we focused on music/theatre themed crafts! The creativity flowed!

We can’t wait for the next weeks of camp together!!!

The right kind of camp can act like a reset button for kids’ mood, confidence, and sense of connection—not just “something to do.” And the kind of camps Oak runs (small groups, nature, arts, movement, cozy community vibes) line up surprisingly well with what recent research says children need to feel well.
