Students take flight! 🛫

Oak Learners Middle School students took a field trip to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum on November 22, 2024.

Our unit on Flight took on new meaning as students learned about the history of warplanes and the impact that RCAF aviators had on history. Historical planes, artifacts and patient knowledgeable volunteers brought history and flight science to life for us today. Students had the opportunity to sit in vintage planes and touch all of the gears and knobs! What an incredible experience!

Our friend Alan, owner of DNA Systems, came with us and even lent a hand to the museum staff who were trying to get their flight simulators working!! Alan has been sharing his passion for planes and flying with our students throughout his working relationship with Oak Learners. Our students absolutely love when Alan brings his flight simulator to class, so he was the perfect chaperone and personal guide for this field trip!

Featuring art created by students from local schools, the works in this exhibition speaks to the seasonal changes from autumn to winter, like snowfalls and long periods of darkness, and the cultural traditions they help shape. The exhibition is open from November 19 to December 18, 2024.
