Every Child Matters – Orange Shirts 2022

Born in Nassau, The Bahamas, Doran Reed is a local artist who identifies as Non-Status Metis. After moving back to Toronto, Doran began to dig a little deeper into her family roots and learned about her family members in Wiikwemkoong on Manitoulin Island. In recognition of this Truth and Reconciliation Day (September 30, 2022), Doran wanted to create a special design for the Oak Learners community to build on our commitment to children and education.  In Indigenous cultures, the eagle is seen as a symbol of great strength, leadership, and vision. Throughout history, particularly recently, Indigenous communities have continued to show their perseverance and strength. Doran wanted to portray this message with her art, hence why the eagle is the prominent image of this design.

All proceeds from the sale of orange shirts at Oak Learners will be donated to the Downie Wenjack Fund.
