  1. Craft (with an adult): Make your own crayons
  2. Craft (without an adult): Toilet Paper Roll Binoculars
  3. Indoor Bowling – This activity builds math skills and hand-eye coordination.
    Make your own indoor bowling alley! Set up 10 plastic cups, empty cans, or empty plastic bottles as pins. Then create a starting line, and let your child “bowl” using a ball. While they are playing, ask how many pins fell down each time. How many are left?
  4. Journal: What can you find in your house that is made out of wax?

  2. Plastic Cup Building Challenge This activity develops your child’s problem-solving skills. Challenge your child to build using plastic cups. Can they build a tower as tall as they are? Can they make a building that can stay standing if someone blows on it? Can they make a building that’s shaped like a triangle?

  3. Journal Question: What are the differences you notice in the trees in your neighbourhood?

Offline Play-Starter Ideas

Craft: Bird Feeders (recycled box or carton, sticks/popsicle sticks, birdseed, glue)

Make a Treasure Box  – This activity builds fine-motor skills.

Have your child cut out pictures from magazines and glue them to the outside of a box, such as a shoe box. Encourage your child to overlap pictures so the whole box is covered. When the glue dries, you will have a colorful work of art in which to put special trinkets

Craft: DIY Game! (materials:shoebox, household recycled material, markers, scissors, straws, a small sphere ball (marble, bouncy ball, etc))

Find the Rhymes  – This activity promotes literacy.
Ask your child to choose one thing around the home that has a simple name. For example: door, cat, or bed.
Your child will then walk around your home and find other things that rhyme with that word. For example, if they chose a “bed,” they might find a “sled” or some “bread” in the home too!
Your child can play this indoors or outdoors.

Craft: Stained Glass Windows (Materials: Clear plastic (seran wrap or a ziploc bag), colourful tissue paper, markers, decorative materials)

Weird Menu! This activity fosters creativity and gets the sillies out.Your child will pretend to be a waiter. Someone else will be the customer. Have your child think of the weirdest (or grossest) foods possible! Then they should tell the “customer” about the food.

For example, they might say:
Welcome to our restaurant. Tonight we are serving . . .
pizza topped with oatmeal and fish sticks
chicken-‘n’-dirt nuggets
hot dog topped with whipped cream
a broccoli ice cream sundae
The challenge is to say the gross foods without laughing!
