SUMMARY:World Oceans Week 2024: The Future of Water
DESCRIPTION:June 3rd – June 7th \nETOBICOKE\, ONTARIO\n\n\nFor the month of June\, our students are focused on the sustainability & life of Canadian waters. We are focusing on: \n\nconservation\nplastics – microplastics – garbage patch\nlayers of the ocean\nrocks\, geology\, glaciers\ntides & the moon\ncurrents & weather systems\nbuoyency – salt water vs plain water\nwater systems\nsalt water desalination\n\nWe frequently take trips of to the Humber River & Lake Ontario during our inquiry-based units and we will expand the unit for Ocean Week Canada to include water monitoring with Water Rangers equipment. Our older school will create a water sustainability project based on their findings & open it up as an event for parents & students.

SUMMARY:Trans Canada Trail Care Day 2024
DESCRIPTION:It takes a nation to care for the world’s longest trail network! And on June 1\, we’ll be celebrating the thousands of volunteers across Canada who do exactly that. \nTrail Care Day is a multi-location event happening in communities across Canada to get the Trail ready for spring and summer. Each event showcases a unique section of the Trans Canada Trail and calls on volunteers in the community to roll up their sleeves for whatever trail care activity is needed most locally — from debris removal and brush clean-up to accessibility improvements or art installations. \n\nDrop by Oak Learners booth for kids activities and a self-guided scavenger hunt on the Trail. Return to the booth once you’ve found everything on the list to get a free snack from Birds & Beans Café and pick up your Great Lakes Waterfront Trail patch.
